The Founders' Medal is the highest award that the Society can bestow upon an individual for outstanding achievements in logistics engineering, technology, or management. SOLE - The International Society of Logistics presents this award to honor logisticians whose contributions to the profession are significant, outstanding, and have national or international impact.
Benjamin S. Blanchard, CPL, Fellow
Professor Benjamin S. Blanchard, CPL, Fellow is awarded the Founders' Medal in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the Society and the field of Logistics Engineering. In addition to his many outstanding text books on Logistics Engineering and Systems Engineering, Professor Blanchard has, for many years, provided his knowledge and experience in Logistics Engineering through workshops, papers and seminars, as well as in the classroom. He is a frequently requested speaker and instructor throughout the world. His recognition as a leader in the profession is considerable: over his 35 years of dedication and commitment, the Society has honored him with numerous awards. He is a three-time winner of the Armitage Medal (first in 1970; then in 1974 for his book, Logistics Engineering and Management; and again in 1991); the 1983 recipient of the Eccles Medal; and the 1993 recipient of the Distinguished Service award. A member of the 19 74 Fellows class, Professor Blanchard has twice been recognized with the President's Award for Merit (1980 and 1999). His leadership role within the Society is considerable: he has served as the Editor of the SOLEtter; Chairman, Publications Committee; Vice President, Technical; Vice President, International; and, in 1981-- 1982, as the Society's President. A member of SOLE's Board of Advisors since 1992, Professor Blanchard is known by many of his fellow logisticians as the person they can depend on at any time for advice or assistance on critical supportability. His personal commitment of time and resources gave the Society the highly successful SOLEtech newsletter at a pivotal time in the Society's history. We are proud to list Professor Blanchard in the ranks of outstanding Founders' Medal recipients.
