June 1982: Banker poets

Northwestern Financial Review, Oct 18, 1997

St. Paul, Minn.-bank, Northwestern National Bank (now Norwest) sponsored poetry seminars for its employees as a part of personal growth program. The bank brought in a professional poet to lead the seminars where participants listened to poetry read aloud, and wrote their own verse. Here's what one employee wrote, titled "The Loan Walrus":

"The Walrus sits heavily, chin sinking into/his massive chest./'A loan?' /He asks, ponderous as a slow moving freight./Judgment is a dark cloud,/Mysterious and cautious,/digging carefully into corners, sweeping answers/into the light of day,/from the chair of studied wisdom,/Shucking the dark cloak like yesterday's memories./Moving faster, faster./Suddenly a ferret, out to find/NEW BUSINESS/Shouting - We can do it Better/Faster/Friendlier/Than anyone else/Changing quickly, from one form to another,/The Loan Walrus rides again.
