IIB forming new committees

Northwestern Financial Review, Nov 22, 1997

When Jim Brown, president of the Hardin County Savings Bank in Eldora, became president of the Iowa Independent Bankers association last summer, he told bankers to watch for changes in the coming year. True to his word, significant changes are underway at the organization which was formed in 1971.

The association has authorized the creation of seven new association committees. They are: a contact committee which will be responsible for setting up meetings with potential and existing members; a convention committee which will help the IIB staff plan the annual meeting at Okoboji; an education committee which will make recommendations for educational seminars; a golf/PAC committee which will help raise funds for political activities; a legislative committee which will help the IIB board determine association positions on important state and federal banking issues; a membership committee which will be responsible for increasing the association's membership; and a public relations committee which will promote independent banking in Iowa.

"The goal during my tenure as IIB president is to re-energize our members," said Brown. "The goal is to let them know they have input into the decision-making process of this association."

All of the committees are scheduled to meet Dec. 3. On Dec. 4, the IIB board will consider recommendations from the legislative committee and make a final vote on the association's 1998 legislative positions.
