Northwestern Financial Review, Feb 6, 1999
Former Ypsilanti banker, Inez Madden, a 60-year veteran of the North Dakota banking industry, died on Dec. 18 in Fargo. She was 91. Madden was a teacher for seven years before starting work at Farmers State Bank in Ypsilanti in 1934 when she married Owen "Bud" Madden. The couple worked together until "Bud" Madden's death in 1953. Inez Madden continued to operate the bank until her retirement in 1994. She served primarily as executive vice president and cashier of the familyowned bank, which had assets hovering around $3 million. Her brothers, I.M. Riedman and Edward "Bill" Riedman, served as the bank's president and vice president, respectively.
Farmers State Bank was bought in August 1996 by Jamestown-based Stutsman County State Bank. The Ypsilanti bank served as a branch until Jan. 15 of this year when it was closed.
