Shorewood bank takes 'Beacon' name
Northwestern Financial Review, Feb 20, 1999
First State Bank of Excelsior has a new name. After more than a year of research and preparation, the bank introduced its new name, "Beacon Bank" on Feb. 1. The Shorewoodbased bank is the only bank in the country with this name.
The name change was initiated because people could not remember the lengthy name "First State Bank of Excelsior," said president and CEO Bob Weiss, who currently serves as president of the Minnesota Bankers Association.
"The chosen name 'Beacon' evokes images of friendliness and guidance that represent our organization well," Weiss said.
Excelsior is a community where residents are used to nautical themes, as the town is located on the shores of the Twin Cities' largest lake.
Although the name is changing, there are no other changes at the bank, such as a merger or an acquisition.
