Bremer fulfills Habitat for Humanity pledge

Northwestern Financial Review, Apr 22, 2000

Two years after winning a $625,000 Affordable Housing Program grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, Bremer Bank of St. Paul has nearly fulfilled its agreement with Habitat For Humanity to build 100 homes across Minnesota.

The 100th home is under construction in St. Paul. The home is being entirely made of concrete block. The Minnesota Concrete Masonry Association, along with more than a dozen other organizations, are working on the project, which is expected to be complete by August.

The Federal Home Loan Bank system is Habitat for Humanity's largest corporate sponsor. Commemorating its 10th anniversary of the Affordable Housing Program grants, all 12 of the Home Loan Banks agreed to sponsor a house in their district. The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines selected this St. Paul home and donated $20,000 toward its construction.

The $625,000 grant awarded through Bremer Bank is the largest grant the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines has ever made to a Habitat for Humanity project.

The St. Paul house ultimately will become the home of Trina Smith and her three children, Alyssa, Donte and Marcus.
