Cook bank remodeling preserves many 1930s-era features

Northwestern Financial Review, Jan 15, 2001

The Farmers Bank of Cook, Neb., recently celebrated the opening of a major addition. The bank's main office gained additional space by remodeling the premises formerly occupied by E&E Meats. The space now houses the bank's executive offices, meeting rooms and storage space.

The bank's new boardroom is in a space once occupied by Cook State Bank, which closed during the 1930s. The original tin ceiling and a mosaic tile floor have been restored. Also, a four-faced antique clock has been installed in the front of the building.

Weathercraft Co. of Lincoln was the general contractor on the remodeling project.

Bancook Corp., the holding company that controls the bank, will have its main offices in the remodeled building. This corporation also controls Farmers Bank, Prairie Home; DeWitt State Bank, and The First National Bank, Summerfield, Kan. The Prairie Home bank also has offices in Lincoln and Waverly, while the DeWitt bank also has an office in Western.

Farmers Bank of Cook also has offices in Tecumseh, Peru, Virginia, Lewiston, and Liberty. Judson B. Douglas III is president of the bank and holding company.
