Site.seeing: Simplicity, clarity make Web site stand out

Northwestern Financial Review, Mar 1, 2001

The Carson National Bank of Auburn, Neb., has an extremely attractive Web site that combines tradition with 21st Century technology. The home page welcomes you with a picture of the bank, a state map, and a nameplate that uses a traditional font representative of the bank's 114-year history.

The $40 million bank offers online banking, via Digital Insight. The site has other high-tech features, including a search engine in the "contact us" area.

There are some nice extra touches on this site, including the interesting area history presented in the "about us" section. Another nice touch is the FDIC logo at the bottom of the home page. All bank Web sites are required to carry the logo, but Carson National Bank made the logo a link to the FDIC Web site, which could be helpful to potential customers who want to check out the bank's most recent statement of condition or call report.

Information is presented in an exceptionally clear fashion. The "contact us" section, which includes the address, phone number and hours of operation, includes a useful list of holidays for the entire year, which may help a customer avoid a futile trip to the bank on Columbus Day.
