Why wait until March? Start networking today
Northwestern Financial Review, Sep 1, 2001 by Nash, Kitty
I'm ready - I'm ready today. The HCI Convention cannot come soon enough for me! I have to wait until March to see all of you, but I'm ready now-aren't you?
The rush has begun. Projects and ideas that have been dormant in heat and humidity of summer are now alive and moving forward. The approaching holidays are awakening the deadline gremlins we all know and love. Slow-and-easy has become petal-to-the-metal.
By the March convention I'll be close to burn out. I'll be desperate for new ideas, uninterrupted conversations with my colleagues, contagious enthusiasm and respite. Nothing provides all of that better than our annual meeting. It's a winning combination of networking opportunities, informational seminars, and the latest travel trends. The best of both sides of the banking and travel industries come together for a fantastic conference that benefits us all.
Of course, I don't have to wait until March to get the help I need. I'm going to get on the phone this afternoon and touch base with some of you to see what your newest and best ideas are. It's refreshing to talk with other directors who understand all the concerns, pressures and details. Networking is a gift we give to each other. Have you called a Peer Group Member lately?
As you're thinking about other members of the HCI Peer Group and the March Convention, think about nominating someone (maybe you!?) for the Advisory Board. Nine of our members serve 3-year terms on the board. Each year, three people rotate off and we elect three others to serve. It's a wonderful opportunity to participate in the convention, meet even more people, and get to know our Preferred Travel Providers better. The system of a 3year term and rotating members keeps the board fresh and enthusiastic. Our convention is extraordinary because of George Aker's leadership, HCI's hard-working staff and because your Advisory Board is creative, enthusiastic and in tune with our needs. We contact all nominees and ask that management approve, then it's up to the election process at the convention to decide who will serve. If you have any questions, please call an advisory board member. [My number is (815) 459-2002; e-mail is knash@homestateonline.com.]
What an honor it has been to serve on your Advisory Board the past three years and to chair the Board these past two years. I have enjoyed getting to know more of our members as well as the other Advisory Board members and Preferred Travel Operators. Not only is our Senior Class Club better because of all of you, I am personally better because of your interest, your friendship, and your willingness to share your ideas.
I really am ready today - but I will see you in Michigan in March "with bells on."
