FDIC Insurance funds gain income

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. reports the Bank Insurance Fund earned $706 million the first six months of 2001, compared to $366 million for the same period last year. By the end of June, the BIF balance was $31.7 billion with a reserve ratio of 1.33 percent. During the same period, the Savings Association Insurance Fund reported income of $33 million compared to $257 million last year.

At the year's midpoint, the SAIF balanced at $10.8 billion with a reserve to deposit ratio of 1.4 percent.
