National Association calling for new Security Task Force

Northwestern Financial Review, Nov 1, 2001

The American Bankers Association is urging Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill to create a task force on the security of the financial system, saying that it could be terrorism's next target. A letter to O'Neill from Don Ogilvie, executive vice president of the association, warned that action to disrupt the financial system is a potential strategy of terrorists.

Ogilvie wrote that the ABA is ready to work with the administration in creating such a task force. Ogilvie also offered the help of the Financial Services Coordinating Council, a coalition of banking, securities, and insurance industry groups, in establishing a panel.
