President Bush makes temporary SEC appointments

Northwestern Financial Review,  Feb 15, 2002

[national summary]

President Bush has made temporary appointments to fill gaps on the Securities and Exchange Commission board. Bush, using his power to make "recess appointments," installed a Republican, Cynthia A. Glassman, and reappointed a Democrat, Isaac C. Hunt Jr. The five-member SEC board has its chairman, Harvey Pitt, in place but the rest of the lineup has been up in the air. Glassman and another Republican, Paul S. Atkins, were nominated late last year to fill vacancies. Hunt has continued serving since his term expired in December. Another vacancy opened Jan. 22 when Commissioner Laura Unger officially stepped down as planned.
