Colorado bank awards five scholarships

Northwestern Financial Review, Sep 1-Sep 14, 2002

Heritage Bank, Louisville, Colo., has awarded five $1,000 college scholarships.

Rachel Fuchs, Brendan Hickey, Jessica Rhoads and Jillian Winsor received the Heritage Bank-funded Good Neighbor Scholarships in May, which are given to collegebound high school graduates.

The scholarship recipients were chosen for their leadership, student activities and community involvement as well as their academic achievements. Each has volunteered extensively for service programs including Special Olympics, Community Food Share and the Big Brother Program. They also fulfilled leadership roles with local youth groups, in various schoolsponsored clubs, and in organizations such as National Honor Society and student council. The students have won numerous awards for their achievements.

Thus far the Good Neighbor Scholarship Program, established by Heritage Bank in 1996, has helped 25 people with college expenses.

The fifth scholarship was awarded to Nelly Solorzano, who received The Front Range Community College Foundation award. The $1,000 scholarship is earmarked for a Front Range Community College student who has been out of school for at least one year.

"Higher education has always been a priority with my family," Solorzano said. "I decided it was time to refocus on college and work toward my career goals."

Heritage Bank has 11 Colorado locations and $350 million in assets.
