Realtors predicted to defeat bankers in Washington
Northwestern Financial Review, Mar 1-Mar 14, 2003
Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) said he supports banks' efforts to expand into real estate brokerage but thinks the National Association of Realtors will defeat them. "Because of the political strength of the realtors, my guess is they will succeed," Frank said. Realtors have strong support in the House and Senate for legislation to stop a proposal that would allow banks to broker and manage real estate transactions.
Rep. Frank, the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, said he would vote against such legislation.
