Credit union growth passes milestone

Assets in the credit union industry topped $600 billion at the end of the first quarter, according to the industry's trade group, the Credit Union National Association. The figure represents more than 20 percent growth in the last two years. During the first quarter, deposits increased by 5.5 percent. First quarter loan volume was only 0.1 percent ahead of first quarter 2002.
