National City donates blankets to Chicago senior citizens

Northwestern Financial Review, Feb 15-Feb 29, 2004

National City Bank in Chicago teamed up with Meals on Wheels and the Chicago Department on Aging to bring extra warmth to senior citizens this past holiday season. National City donated 15,000 red fleece blankets to seniors throughout Chicago, Joliet, Aurora and Rockford. Seniors who receive home-delivered meals from Meals on Wheels, reside in special low-income housing, or visit dining facilities operated by the Chicago Department on Aging, each received a blanket in addition to their regular meal.

"National City believes its role in the community extends beyond the doors of the banks in which we work," said Joseph A. Gregoire, National City's regional president for Chicagoland and northern Illinois. "Charitable giving and volunteering is part of our culture. We care about doing what is right for our communities."

"Thousands of Chicagoland seniors rely on Meals on Wheels Chicago and the Chicago Department on Aging to fulfill their basic nutrition needs," said Barbara Wallace, president of the board of directors of Meals on Wheels Chicago. "We are grateful to National City that this holiday season we were able to provide them with something extra to brighten their day and help keep them warm this winter."
