UMB compliance expert honored by association

The American Bankers Association has honored Chuck Lewis with a distinguished service award for his work in the bank compliance arena. Lewis is president of UMB Consulting Services, a subsidiary of UMB Financial Corp., Kansas City, Mo. Lewis, a well-known expert in bank compliance, accepted the recognition June 7 at a compliance conference in Chicago sponsored by ABA.
The award, first presented in 1995, recognizes outstanding leadership, initiative and accomplishment in the banking industry's regulatory compliance management profession.
Lewis has worked for UMB Financial for more than 25 years. He was director of regulatory services for 21 years. UMB Consulting Services provides training, monitoring and auditing services for banks that need assistance with developing compliance policies and procedures.
"Chuck is a dedicated compliance professional who brings a fresh and lively approach to teaching," said Richard Harvey, Jr., chairman of the ABA Compliance Executive Committee and chief compliance officer for Silicon Valley Bank, Santa Clara, Calif. "He is one of the only people I know who can take a subject as dry as compliance and make it fun for everyone."
