Remote deposit capture service growing rapidly

By the end of 2008, nearly six out of 10 community banks expect to offer remote deposit capture services. Sixteen percent of the 590 banks responding to the the American Bankers Association survey offer remote capture now. Another 33 percent of the sample plan to offer it by some point this year and 9 percent plan to implement the technology in 2008 or later.

Bankers offering the service called it essential to their survival while others said they like to stay on the leading edge of new technology. Sixteen percent of the bankers see the service as a way to cut processing costs and 13 percent offer the service to keep up with competitors.
