Former ABA leader named to Fed Board

Northwestern Financial Review, Jul 15-Jul 31, 2008

The U.S. Senate confirmed Elizabeth "Betsy" Duke to a Governor's seat on the Federal Reserve Board on June 27. Duke, who in 2004-2005 became the first female to serve as chairman of the American Bankers Association, was nominated by President Bush in May 2007. She is filling a term set to expire in 2012.

Duke, 55, began her banking career as a part-time teller before going on to start a community bank. She later became an executive with Wachovia Bank. "Betsy learned banking from the ground up. Her many years as a bank CHO and her involvement in ABA over the past decade have given Betsy a first-hand understanding of the challenges facing the financial services industry," said Ed Yingling, ABA president/CEO.
