Both these criticisms, however, involve very difficult issues on which a spectrum of views can be found; and Gathercole rightly notes that the theme of judgment by works and its relationship to justification deserves considerably more attention than he is able to give it. These criticisms are very minor caveats about a book whose basic thesis is timely, important, and convincing.
