John Sidney Wiid of the Republic of South Africa joined the Evangelical Theological Society in 1970. Over the years he lived in Johannesburg, Randburg, and at the time of his death in December, 2002, he lived in Port Elizabeth with his wife. His degrees were from the University of Stellenbosch (B.A.) 1952, the Baptist Theological College of South Africa (Diploma of Theology) 1964, Wheaton Graduate School (M.A.) 1971, University of South Africa (Dr. of Theology) 1979, and Rand Afrikaans University (D.Litt, and Phil.) 1991.
John had various articles published and taught at the University of South Africa for nine years as Senior Post., then for eighteen years as chair of the New Testament Department at Baptist Theological College, for five years as Professor of New Testament at University of Zululand in Kwazulu Natal, and as visiting professor at Rand Afrikaans University in Auckland Park for two years. John was a member of ETS for thirty-two years.
