MEMORIALS: KENNETH BRUCE MULHOLLAND

Kenneth Bruce Mulholland was born October 24, 1937 in Oak Park, IL, to Archibald and Helen Mulholland. he attended Proviso High in Forest Park, IL where he came to Christ through the witness of his high school peers at age 16. he was torn between the churches of his peers-which were more fundamental-and the United Church of Christ, which he was attending. His parents did not attend church. After graduation from Elmhurst College with a B.A. in 1959, Kenneth attended Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, PA, receiving his B.D. degree in 1962. he pastured a UCC church in Pennsylvania for three years. he met his wife Ann Christensen in Ramallah, Jordan in 1959 as part of a World Council of Churches summer missions program, building a leper hospital. Ann was a missionary in Lebanon at that time. They corresponded for two years, and then upon Ann's return from Lebanon, Kenneth placed a ring on her finger in New York City. They were married three weeks later on August 26, 1961 at the Presbyterian Church in Davenport, WA. After a final year of seminary, Kenneth pastured a UCC congregation in Fredericksburg, PA from 1962-65, then he and Ann served as missionaries with the United Church Board for World Ministries (UCC), in Honduras, then in Costa Rica from 1966-80. In 1972 Ken received his doctorate in missiology from Fuller Seminary. he joined the faculty of Columbia Bible College and Seminary in 1980 and became assistant seminary dean in 1984, then dean from 1988-2001. he served on many mission boards and was chairman of the board of the Hispanic Education Association. he was a member of the Evangelical Missiological Society, EFMA, and the Evangelical Theological Society, the latter for over 20 years. he served as president of EMS from 1992-95, and again from 19982001.

Kenneth wrote dozens of articles and several books. he traveled to almost 100 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, the Far East, Russia, and Malaysia. he was a voracious reader, collected stamps, and loved gardening. Kenneth retired at the end of june, and died September 8, 2003 at home in Columbia, SC after a two-year bout with cancer. he lived 65 years, 10 months, and 15 days. he was a member of the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Columbia.

Left to mourn Kenneth are his wife Ann; daughter Christine and her husband Siegwart Reichwald and children, Anika and Olivia, of Royal Palm Beach, FL; son David and his wife Maren and children, Anna Grace, Heather, and Stephen, of Columbia, SC; and daughter Kathryn and husband Jeff Denlinger, and children Andy and Rachel of Highland Ranch, CO.
