MEMORIALS: DAVID IAN CHILDS

David lan Childs was born on November 4, 1943 in Ebbw Vale, South Wales, Great Britain, to Edgar and Lillian Childs. lan had an older sister, May. lan took his theological education (B.D.) at South Wales Bible College in Barry, obtained his B.A. from Cardiff University, and at the time of his death was pursing his doctorate, having finished all but his final oral exam.
lan met Gwenyth Longmore, a member of his first pastorate, in South Wales. They were married on September 26, 1971 at Neaph in South Wales, lan pastured the Calvary Baptist Church (independent) in Bryntirion from 1972-82, and the Horsell Evangelical Church in Woking, Surrey, from 1982-2003. he loved reading, especially Puritan theology, and had been a management accountant before entering the ministry. lan wrote many book reviews for the Banner of Truth magazine, was a trustee of the Evangelical Library, and secretary of the Westminster Ministers' Fellowship in London. Ian had been a member of the Evangelical Theological Society since 1981. he loved to attend the annual meeting year after year, meeting old friends and discussing theological issues. Ian died at home on April 26, 2003, after fighting cancer for almost a year. he lived 59 years, 5 months, and 22 days.
Left to mourn Ian are his wife, Gwenyth, a midwife in Woking; his son Matthew, an investment account manager in Woking; and his daughter Elizabeth, the administrator of a large store in Woking.
