Chris's back lot: RC community effort
Radio Control Car Action, Nov 2000 by Chianelli, Chris
Consulting Psychologists Press Inc. (CPP) of Palo Alto, CA, has gotten together with Belle Haven Junior High School to sponsor a team of eighth graders for 1/10-scale racing under the "CPP Racing Team" name. The goal is for the students to benefit from working together and to build their self-confidence by successfully completing their TC-3 racecars and staging events as a group. As Kenneth Hawthorn, director of the program, states: "These kids are from a very tough area, and adding to their self-esteem as they enter high school is a heartfelt endeavor for me. This next school year, I am looking to incorporate the concept as an independent nonprofit undertaking and getting this program set up in other communities."
CPP has underwritten all the costs associated with the racing team, including cars, building materials and team attire. Personally, I've always felt that RC could work some good in this world in just the way CPP and Kenneth have done in California. I know this great RC car hobby has been very good to many of you out there on the business end of the industry. I think that contacting Ken would be the right thing to do. Moreover, such action-and those who step up to the plate, as the expression goes-would be covered on the pages of RC Car Action for all the world to see.
To contact Ken Hawthorn, email him at kbh@cpp-db.com; or write (to his attention) to CPP, 3803 E. Bayshore Rd., P.O. Box 10096, Palo Alto, CA 94303.
The CCP Team already has a website: http://currents.cpp-db.com/team. I'm impressed!
