Houe give China NTR, OK's D.C. homosexual adoption, Senate passes $792-billion tax cut, rejects House plan

Human Events, Aug 13, 1999

The House declined to call for the release of a woman held in Peru for allegedly plotting terrorist acts. The House also failed to rescind Clinton's extension of Normal Trade Relations with Red China. Finally, the House this year failed to pass an amendment to the D.C. Appropriations bill that would have stopped the District from allowing adoptions by homosexual and other unrelated couples.

The Senate first rejected a bid to adopt the House tax cut bill, but then passed its own somewhat more complicated bill the following day.

A compromise measure was to be voted on by both chambers by the end of the week, but the bill will not be sent to the President for his expected veto until after Labor Day. Both the House and the Senate began a four-week recess on Monday and are due to return September 8.
