"I would not seek to overturn Roe v. Wade tomorrow."

"I favor the ultimate repeal of Rae v. Wade. But we all know, and it's obvious, that if we repeal Roe v. Wade tomorrow, thousands of young American women would be performing illegal and dangerous operations.... We are the party of Abraham Lincoln, of inclusion and not of exclusion. And I hope we can all work together and maintain a dialogue within our party as we help try to resolve this very difficult issue that affects America in such a grievous way."

CNN's "Late Edition"

"Throughout my 17-year career in public office, I have proudly maintained a strong and consistent pro-life voting record. I have always believed in the importance of the repeal of Roe v. Wade, and as President, I would work toward its repeal. The point that I have consistently made is that a repeal of Roe v. Wade must occur, but that it must take place in conjunction with a sustained effort to reduce the number of abortions performed in America. If Roe v. Wade were repealed tomorrow, it would force thousands of young women to undergo dangerous and illegal operations. I will continue to work with both pro-life and pro-choice Americans so that we can eliminate the need for abortions to be performed in this country."
