The right-side bolts (called Bolt A) were longer M10x48 fasteners with a 12.9 hardness rating. The left-side bolts (called Bolt B) were shorter M10x45 fasteners with just a 10.9 hardness rating. So Volkswagen cautions that under no circumstances should Bolt B be tightened to 52 ft-lb, and to always replace Bolt B with the harder, longer Bolt A. Make sure Bolt A clears the transmission housing when the wade turns. If it doesn't, shorten Bolt A as necessary.

Jeep

Headlight flicker. Jeep reports that its 1997-99 Cherokees may suffer from a headlight flicker each time the cooling fan or the a/c compressor cycles on. It

may not be that noticeable in the big city, but out in the country, where there's less road lighting, the symptom is quite obvious. Jeep's fix for this weird problem is to install a revised cooling fan relay module (Part No. 0501340AA) that reduces the cm-rent surge.

Land Rover

Bad heater hose. Now that summer's coming, you might want to be on the lookout for those particular 1997 Land Rover Discoverys (from \JIN RA104739) that are about to blow their little heater feed hose (Part No. PEH101170) at the intake manifold. The hose may leak for quite some time before the engine overheats, too. Land Rover say's you can reuse the original clamps when installing the new hose. Just make sure to squish the hose at the other end of the 90 metal tube using a soft jaw heater hose clamp to prevent air pockets from forming in the heater core (Land Rover calls it a matr/x).

Ford Rear tire wear. Ford has updated its Rear Suspension Adjustable Camber Kit (Part No. E7DZ-5K751-B for sedans, E7DZ-5K751-A for wagons) to include the 1996 and 1997 model years of Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable. The kit can now increase camber adjustability when inner tire edge wear is the problem on 1986-97 cars. Included in the package are eight flat washers, six tab washers (spacers), four hex head bolts, four hex flange nuts and one instruction sheet.
