ASA cars looks to the future

Motor,  Jan 2002  by Nash, Tom

The Automotive Service Association (ASA) held its annual Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) recently in Las Vegas. "Servicing the Machine of 2015" was the theme of the annual event, and the message of keynote speaker Steve Ford, a MOTOR contributor. Ford took a look at today's evolving automotive technologies and told the 550 attendees that there are genuine reasons to be optimistic about service opportunities in 2015.

The event also included ten technical courses and four management seminars, which covered current, evolving and future trends and technologies. Among the subjects covered in the technical courses were servicing hybrid vehicles, future technology issues, automotive multiplex systems, new GM vehicle features, Ford engine performance troubleshooting and OBD II EVAP testing.

MOTOR contributing writer Bob O'Connor and Ned Tomarchio each led two Automotive Management Institute (AMI) seminars, which focused on enabling owners and managers to be effective in both today's and tomorrow's shop.

ASA's Washington D.C. Representative Bob Redding provided an update on the Association's legislative activities. Among the issues on which Redding reported were: seeking a solution to the repair information availability problem, emissions and safety inspections and maintenance, ASKs role on an EPA committee for OBD testing and maintenance and small business tax issues.
