NASCAR Tech Institute opens
Nash, TomThe NASCAR Technical Institute, a $12 million, 146,000-square-foot facility, revved up to address the industry shortage of automotive service technicians with its grand opening May 20 in Mooresville, North Carolina-heart of NASCAR country. The school houses more than 45 classrooms and 49,000 square feet of hands-on shop training areas. It was created through a partnership behveen the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) and NASCAR.
It's the country's first technical training school to combine a complete automotive technology program and a NASCAR-specific motorsports program. The school, which is the exclusive educational partner of NASCAR, employs about 150 staff members and can train up to 1900 students. Demand is so high that classes are full through next February. The first class begins this month.
