Autodiagnos offers the hand-held Multi-Tester pro. A previous Autodiagnos tool, the Multi-Tester plus, was very similar to the scanner Autodiagnos supplied to Volvo service techs. The Multi-Tester pro is designed for advanced diagnostics of modem automotive electronic systems on Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Mercedes, Volkswagen and Volvo vehicles. Its large display reduces the need for frequent scrolling. It can be easily updated to many car models simply by changing a software cartridge and adapter. An "open system" approach allows it to communicate with multiple vehicle models, using OEM protocols, standardized OBD II and CAN buses.

Ross-Tech markets software (VAG-COM) that turns your laptop or PC into a VAG emulator for VW/Audi vehicles, and new PC/laptop-based software is available for BMW vehicles. VAG-COM is the only aftermarket VAG tool that has a database of more than 7000 fault-codes and measuring-block texts. VAG-COM can use the new 7-Digit PIN/SKC codes to match new keys in all immobilizer-equipped VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda models. It also allows you to simultaneously view, log and graph three groups of measuring blocks. VAG-COM also can access all control modules that require proprietary VAG modes running the new KWP-2000 protocols (2001 and later Teves Mk.60 ABS and numerous 2002 and later modules).
ACTIA Corp. offers PC-based diagnostic tools, a pass-though tool for BMW and an additional adapter for the older 20-pin underhood connector. When fully implemented, ACTIA promises full access to all systems, with GTl functionality, linked to the factory website. At present, it accesses engine (DME) and transmission (EGS) systems.
Trade Magazines
Trade magazines, like the one you're holding in your hand, continue to be an excellent source of service information on European vehicles. MOTORS annual import car issue gives you the latest scoop on the technology behind Europe's newest offerings. And periodic forays into the world of European vehicle repair serve to supplement the information you collect from other sources. The Service Slants column frequently includes information on late-model European vehicle quirks, so you'll be ready when these vehicles are no longer covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
