Minimum Wage Likely to Rise

Motor, Jun 2004 by Nash, Tom

The minimum wage is certain to be raised from the current $5.15 per hour during this legislative session. Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) has announced plans to attach a minimum wage amendment (S.224) to the next available bill. This amendment would raise the minimum wage by $1.50 over two years. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frisk (R-TN) said he will allow Democrats the opportunity to introduce the legislation.

In previous wage increases, business tax relief was also written into the bill, but indications ofthat happening this time have not yet been discussed.
