Hybrid Sales Rolling Along...

Motor,  Jun 2004  by Nash, Tom

The number of hybrid vehicles registered to U.S. drivers soared by 25.8% in 2003, according to a new study by R.L. Polk & Co. A total of 43,435 hybrid vehicles were registered last year; most were put into service in California, followed by Virginia, Florida and Washington.

The study says hybrid sales, which currently include the Toyota Prius and the Honda Insight and Civic, have been growing nearly 89% annually. However, this is still a mere fraction of the 16.7 million U.S. vehicles registered in 2003.

With additional new models of hybrid vehicles expected from Ford, GM and Lexus, the numbers are expected to continue to grow.
