It's interesting to note that the delay from the request (APP) to the response (TPS) is about 30 milliseconds-the distance between the cursors. This is not a bad response time.

On this Toyota, the accelerator pedal and throttle body assemblies are nonserviceable units. You can't replace or adjust the TPSs or APPs; you must service them as a unit.

Diagnosing these systems should be pretty straightforward, because the manufacturer has provided a full complement of diagnostic trouble codes to help you identify the malfunction. Remember to always check for the existence of any relevant technical service bulletins before replacing components. Some systems can be reflashed to correct for self-diagnostics that were too tight.

One final word of advice: Strictly follow factory service procedures for diagnosing, cleaning and replacing a throttle-by-wire system. TBW systems are safety-critical, with no margin for error.
