Motor, Jan 2008
Kenneth King of Martinsville, VA, was named the Motor/ASE Master Automobile Technician of the Year for 2007. King was chosen because he had the highest combined score on all eight automotive tests plus L-l during the last two administrations of the test.
King has been employed by Tri-City Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Kia, Inc., in Eden, for the past 21 years. In total, he has worked as a technician for 25 years.
King says he loves being an automotive technician because he considers it a vast field, covering everything from physics to human psychology. He's always been interested in things machanical and has worked on everything from aircraft to diesel locomotives. He feels that ASE certification provided a defined goal to achieve, and the achievement of the goal sets a high standard against which all others should be judged.

In other news within the organization, ASE's board of directors has announced several staff changes. The board has named COO/CFO Tim Zilke to succeed Ron Weiner, who has been ASE's president and CEO for the past 25 years. The change became effective Jan. 1.
Weiner has served as president since 1982. He has agreed to remain available to assist ASE as a consultant.
Zilke, a native of Deerfield, MI, joined ASE in 1991 as vice president and CFO, and has been a key member of the ASE management team ever since. He was promoted to senior vice president/CFO in 1997, and named COO/CFO in 2003.
Other changes within the organization include the promotion of Trish Serratore to senior vice president and the extension of Bill Kersten's tenure as president of the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). Originally set to retire in 2008, Kersten has agreed to remain in his position to continue the work he began in 2005.
