Helldiver

Wings of Gold, Winter 2003 by Shaw, Jim

Renowned test pilot CAPT Ed Gillespie, USNR (Ret.) of the Columbus, Ohio Helldiver squadron Will be testing another plane in his long list of piloting jobs early in 2004. The pay won't be like it was when he flew for North American Aviaton/ Rockwell, and the airplane is a personal one in which Ed has a lot of money and time invested.

he and fellow North American engineer, Darell Todd, built the (Van's) RV-9. Ed's son, a first-rate painter, did the paint design. The aircraft has a Subaru Outback engine, is liquid cooled, has a single ignition system and electrically controlled, variable pitch, three-bladed prop. (CAPT Jim Shaw)
