Parent breakfasts
Group, May/Jun 1999
If you have lots of young people in your junior and senior high youth ministries, here's how to get to know all those parents much better. Hold breakfast meetings once a month, and invite all the parents who have kids in one particular grade. For example, the seventh grade in January, the eighth grade in February, and so on.
Make this a parents-only informal meeting time for sharing ideas and concerns. Parents will find they have a lot in common, and it's a great chance for them to interact with everyone on the youth ministry team. Parents will get at least two opportunities to attend during the year, more if they have kids in different grades.
Schedule each meeting on a Saturday morning, and provide a simple baked egg dish, plus juice and rolls. The minimal expense will be well worthwhile for the relationships built and the care shown toward families.
