break it up

Break dancing's back in a big way. This time, however, it's captured the enthusiasm of suburban kids, who draw on influences that range from kung fu to special effects eye-poppers such as The Matrix. Ballet studios offer classes in break dancing-and some California high schools now have break-dancing teams. It's showing up not only at parties, raves, and clubs but also in national competitions. Chris Wright, who organizes competitions, says in a New York Times article, "In the '80s it was basically about partying and having fun. Nowadays it's about money... People are trying to make a living at it now, and they're putting time into it like it was a job."

phantasy world

Sega's Phantasy Star

Online for Dreamcast is the first video console game to offer a multiplayer, online option that enables players from around the world to team up for gameplay. Players create their own characters, choosing from three races (human, newman, or android) and three classes (hunters, rangers, or the force-those who wield powerful magic). Characters' facial appearances, hairstyles, clothing, and body build can all be customized. The game's plot revolves around an exploration of the planet Ragol, where an advance colonization force has disappeared in the aftermath of a massive explosion. Universal icons and a feature that translates simple phrases allow communication between players who speak different languages.
