MUSIC

song: "Changing Me" (from their self-titled album)

topic: change

theme: The wonder of God's transforming grace.

background: Everman delivers pitch-perfect Christian music by wrapping clear faith messages within solid, "Top 40," acoustic rock. While targeting obvious Christian principles, Everman never descends into trite platitudes. They climb the mountains of faith with the awe of God ("You Are") and wondrous grace ("Providence") and also descend into the valleys of hurt when facing death ("I Will Remember") and divorce ("Still Waiting"). (Surprisingly, the songs born out of pain tend to be the album's upbeat cuts.) This balance paints a picture of faith lived out in everyday life, not merely a facade donned for Sunday morning. Everman may not necessarily challenge listeners with their music or themes, but they're skilled at writing melodies and choruses that guarantee maximum listening enjoyment.

discussion questions: Ask: Do you find change easy or difficult? Explain. What are the benefits of change? The draw-backs? What are some changes God has brought about in your life? Was the transformation difficult? Why or why not? Read aloud 2 Corinthians 3:16-18. Why does God require his followers to change? What personal lessons have you learned during times of change? How do you think God is transforming you now? How can you help the process along?
