LOGAN, UT-DuPont Displays held the grand opening ceremony for its stateof-the-art holographic facility. The new facility will design and manufacture advanced holographic optical elements that are used for enhancing brightness in LCD displays as well as holograms for graphic arts and security applications.
Newly appointed president and CEO of DuPont Holographics, Cheoroo Won said, "DuPont Displays is fully committed to the growth and expansion of its Holographic business. The opening of the Logan, Utah facility is a testament to our commitment toward building a high-growth components business based on unique materials technology."
It took six months for building construction and equipment relocation to be completed for the Logan facility, which is 40,000 square feet, and employs over 100 people. This replaces a facility previously operated by Krystal Holographics, Inc. The facility will operate 24 hours a day, five days a week.
DuPont acquired Krystal Holographics, Inc. in October 1999 and recently changed the name to DuPont Holographics, Inc. The holographic business is viewed as a major growth area for DuPont Displays. Major end users for holographic optical elements in the electronics industry include cell phones and pagers manufactured by Motorola and digital watches manufactured by Timex and Casio. In addition, there are exciting developments projects near completion using DDH holograms as part of advanced security applications in passports and ID cards
