From the executive vice president

Faculty Council

At the HOD Special Meeting in March, the House adopted a bylaw creating a Faculty Council and included the provision that a faculty representative selected by the Council would sit at the next House of Delegates meeting with all the rights of a delegate, except the right to hold office.

At the June 19 meeting, the first full meeting of the council was held and, with minor revisions, goals and responsibilities were adopted. This group also agreed with the recommendation to suggest that the House amend the bylaws to assure that college presidents have the opportunity to comment on the faculty adviser appointed to each school.

On July 17, the Faculty Council met again with seven schools represented to elect its representative to the HOD. The group selected Dr. Allen Party, ACA faculty representative from Logan College of Chiropractic. Dr. Larry Kuusisto, ACA faculty representative from Northwestern Health Sciences University, is the alternate. Dr. Parry will represent the Faculty Council with a single vote at the HOD meetings; help coordinate activities of the various faculty representatives; submit quarterly reports to the ACA Board liaison; and prepare an annual report to the ACA House of Delegates regarding ACA status on the various college campuses. We are working to assure that each chiropractic college has an ACA faculty adviser.

We believe this council and our new focus on faculty will assist us in improving the level of communication not just between ACA and faculty, but between ACA and students.

Long-Range Planning Committee

Dr. McMichael and the Long-Range Planning Committee held a number of conference calls and established a number of subcommittees to study new issues. They also proposed a number of projects that were to be considered in Denver.

Summary

ACA has taken on Goliath more than once since October 1999. We have stood our ground and moved forward in those areas most important to the profession. In sum, I think you'll agree with me that it's been a very, very good year for this association.
