First published in 1999, this classic relates the story of a team of scientists working in the Andrews Experimental forest in Oregon since 1948.

Louma presents the complexity of the ecological workings of this forest using their findings. He follows individual scientists and their pursuits, their personalities, and their findings while explaining the larger context of their work and its implication in a captivating style.
