$1 Million state budget allocation
Library Administrator's Digest, Nov 1998
The Livermore California Public Library and the Livermore Valley Unified School District, through the efforts of California Assemblywoman Lynn Leach, are the recipients of a $1 million grant from the State of California for literacy and children's library materials to be housed in the proposed new Civic Center Library located on South Livermore Avenue adjacent to the Police Building.
The Livermore School District, the City of Livermore, and the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District will be asking the voters of Livermore to approve a general obligation bond issue in March of 1999. Included in this ballot measure is a new 45,000sq.-ft. Civic Center Library where these materials will be housed. General obligation bond funds cannot be used for library materials, so these grant funds are significant in the library's ability to provide an adequate collection and equipment for the new building.
In announcing the grant, Assemblywoman Lynn Leach stated, "I am so pleased that the governor supported us on this important project." Each year members of the legislature have the opportunity to request state funds for projects in their district that meet a demonstrated need or to improve the community. Leach promoted this project because of its status as a joint use facility of the city and the school district. She further stated that this project "serves not only local students but the entire community."
