Holiday wreath silent auction begins
Library Administrator's Digest, Dec 2000
The Friends of the Library will sponsor a holiday wreath silent auction beginning Monday, October 2.
Twenty-seven generous and creative businesses and clubs have decorated wreaths provided by the Friends.
Each of the 24-inch artificial pine creations will be displayed on the walls of the library's east entrance (the one nearest the parking lots). Bids will be accepted until 9 p.m. Thursday, November 16, the night of the Friends' annual meeting. Bid status will be updated during the week in order for the bidding to be more competitive. A minimum bid of $25 has been set for each wreath.
All proceeds from the silent auction will be used to support the Friends' Books for Kids Project which provides new books for needy children. Books are distributed through CASA, PatchWorks House, Red Cross, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul's and Tiffin Fire Department.

In the past, Boon says, discarded books were ripped apart before being thrown away. Today, books that must be thrown away should be put in sealed boxes or, better yet, in heavy-duty garbage bags. Other steps in the disposal process are to remove the barcode (or blacken it with an indelible marker) and stamp "withdrawn" over the property stamp wherever it occurs.
