CULTURAL CENTER FUND RAISING
Library Administrator's Digest, Dec 2006
In January, the Decatur Public Library announced a three-year capital campaign to raise $2 million to fund a cultural center in 20,000 square feet of unused space on the library's second floor. To date, the campaign has raised just over $475,000.
The campaign is raising $1,350,000 for renovation/construction costs and $650,000 to create an endowment to fund the new cultural center. Funding sources include corporate and public funding plus private and federal grants.
The $2 million capital campaign to create a local history room, exhibit and gallery space on the second floor of the library will allow many local "treasures" to be available for public display instead of being hidden in a storage closet.
This semi-regular feature will highlight some of these "treasures" that can be discovered once the new space is complete.
