USA: Eagle Picher opens new ion center

Advanced Battery Technology, Nov 1999

Eagle-Picher Technologies, LLC (EPT), a leader in lithium-ion cell development, announces the opening of a multi-million dollar facility for the Advanced Electrochemical Systems Operation (AES) in Joplin, Missouri. AES is a part of the Power Subsystems Department recognized as a leader in nickel-hydrogen battery technology.

The Ion Center of Excellence for Technology & Manufacturing facility includes dry and wet laboratories, a chemical analysis laboratory, and engineering and business offices. The new laboratories are equipped with the latest analytical, production, and test equipment capable of producing prototype and production cells for use in aerospace, military, and commercial applications.

EPT will continue to move forward in lithium-ion development and establish itself as a substantial provider of lithium-ion batteries, domestically and globally. Its new facility, combined with the adjacent nickel-hydrogen plant, establishes an "Aerospace Power Plaza," allowing EPT to combine the expertise of both technologies to provide a full range of power choices for the aerospace community and other commercial markets.
