Utra-thin and flexible battery technology

Advanced Battery Technology,  Oct 2000

Power Paper, an Israeli start-up company, announced in September its patented ultra-thin and flexible battery technology that offers an inexpensive, flexible primary battery (see photo, page 1 ). Market-ready, tailor-made for low cost mass-market applications, and environmentally friendly, it allows the battery to be fitted to the product, instead of the product having to fit the battery.

It is equipped with internal power and a microchip, giving function to small simple objects such as tags, labels, and credit cards that until today were considered visionary. This technology also opens new avenues in the fields of disposable medical devices, feedback games, and novelties. PowerPaper can be printed, pasted, or laminated onto paper, plastic, and other media.

The credit-card size Power Paper battery is targeted toward novelty items, toys, greeting cards, etc.; smart cards and tags with audio/visual indicators, etc.; and medical and healthcare uses such as drug delivery, disposal sensors, and medical information.
