Japan: 41st battery symposium is world's largest

Advanced Battery Technology, Dec 2000

The 415 Japanese Battery Symposium, held November 20-21 at the Nagoya Congress Center and sponsored by the Battery Committee of the Electrochemical Society of Japan, is the world's largest battery meeting.

Akiya Kozawa of ITE Aichi Japan reports that this year the attendance was 1300 people, and 320 papers were presented. This year's proceedings was 659 pages long, the first 90 pages of the are entirely in English, since these papers were presented in the English session, an International Symposium on Fuel Cells for Vehicles. Each paper has a good two-page English abstract (about 1000 words with tables and figures, explanations, and titles, all in English). Some titles are:

* 1C02: Development of the Lithium-Ion Polymer Battery Using the Multifunctional Separator by T. Inamasu, et al. (Yuasa Corp.), p. 230.

* 1 C03: Lithium Ion Cells Using Porous Polymer Electrolytes by S. Hitomi, et al. (Japan Storage Battery Co. and Kansai Electric Power Co.), p. 232.

* 2C05: Electrochemical Characteristics of Lithiated Metal Oxide Electrodes in Electrolyte Solutions Containing LiBF4 Salt by T. Nakagawa, et al. (Yamaguchi University), p. 286. ''.

* 2D24: Characteristics of Lithium Ion Secondary Batteries Using LiMn 204 Spinels Mixed with LiCoO2 as the Cathode by N. Nakoano (Sanyo Electric Co.). The ITE Aichi office will prepare English summaries upon request at $100 each (Fax: 81-586-81-1988).
