AVX touts its improved BestCap electrochemical supercapacitor as the only one of its type offering a wide variety of voltage options. Voltages in the standard ranges of 3.5, 4.5 and 5.5V, along with the custom ranges from 1.5 to 1 OV, are available in the same package, eliminating the need for multiple device layouts. Standard capacitance values range from 50 to 560 millifarads. Specified equivalent series resistance is 25 to 230 milliohms, and maximum leakage current is 5 to 40 microamps, depending on size. The supercapacitor is available in sizes of 28x17x2.9 to 6mm, with ultrathin molding-wall construction down to 0.7mm. Pricing is from approximately $4.20 to $15 each in lots of 1,000. The unit targets portable and battery-backed equipment.
