Enova hybrid drive system

Advanced Battery Technology,  May 2002

Korea-based Hyundai Motor Co. will feature hybrid drive systems developed by Enova Systems of Torrance, California, in its hybrid transit vehicles. Enova manufactured its series as a result of the two companies' joint hybrid-development program.

The Panther Genset drive system consists of a 50kW electric motor, a motor controller, and a diesel engine meeting stringent Euro 3 emission specifications. The electric motor and controller are part of Enova's complete line of drive systems, comprising 30kW, 60kW, 90kW, 120kW and 240kW electric and hybrid-electric systems.

"Hyundai Motor Company and Enova are strategic partners in developing electric, hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles for the global market," said Carl Perry, Enova's president and CEO. "Hyundai's choice of Enova's hybrid drive system for their buses is a continuing confirmation of the reliability and robustness of our drive systems. Hyundai's purchase recognizes Enova's position as a major provider of hybrid drive systems in the midsize transit market."
