MobileWise showcases battery recharge system

Advanced Battery Technology, Jan 2003

MobileWise Inc., a fabless semiconductor company, has a new battery recharge system for laptop, handheld, and mobile communications devices.

The system consists of a "Wire-free Electricity Base," which resembles a large computer mouse pad that consumers rest their devices on for recharging. The base can transfer more than 200 watts of power, so it can charge multiple devices simultaneously.

The base, which plugs into an electrical outlet, contains a large number of tiny exposed contacts connected to a smart power controller embedded in its surface. The surface uses conduction to recharge devices, and it does not use any electromagnetic, microwave, or other radiation.

To use this recharge system, the devices must also have the "Wire-free Electricity Adapter," which MobileWise says, "has a tiny footprint, does not require any redesign of the electronic circuits within the device, and integrates externally into most existing laptop computers and other portable electronic products."
